Friday July 9, 2021: SOPHIE NOEL

With a keen ear for melody, a unique sense of instrumentation and composition, and clever, self-reflective, and emotionally sharp lyricism, Yukon-based musician Sophie Noel has developed a voice and sound that is at once charming and unexpected, uplifting and melancholy. Lyrically, she channels the introspection and poeticism of Angel Olsen and uses the expressivity and flexibility of indie rock in the vein of Cate Le Bon, intermingled with country and soul inflections noticeable in the lilt of her voice and Gillian Welch-worthy harmonies. Her first collection of songs, Sisterly EP, was released independently in 2019 and “laid the foundations of a love that will last” (Cups n Cakes Network). Her debut album is due for release in early 2022.
