Featured guests range from emerging to established printmakers\, publishers and writers\, all embracing a spirit of independent creativity while remaining open to collaborative processes. \nThe Dawson Daily News Print & Publishing Festival’s 8th Edition (May 30-June 2\, 2019) presents music\, literary readings\, a series of artist/author talks\, screenprinting jams\, and printmaking demonstrations. \nWorkshops and daytime Festival events take place in the rarely-accessed home of the Dawson Daily News\, one of Dawson City’s early newspapers (printed from 1899 to 1954). Workshops\, demonstrations and readings breathe new life into the formerly active space in our community. Since the first year of this project\, an 1890s Chandler & Price letterpress\, formerly used at the Whitehorse Star\, has been completely restored for use. Other original artifacts are on display thanks to Parks Canada. \nEvening Festival events are in the historic ballroom at the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (KIAC). \n\n				\n			 \n			 \n				\n				\n			 \n				\n				\n			  \n

Skill levels range from those who have never held a gold pan in their hands to those who make a living mining.  From beginner to professional\, each category rewards a first\, second and third place- all participants get to keep all the gold they find! Check out the last year’s schedule here to get an idea of the timing\, and don’t miss out on the exhibitions planned between panning! \nHow the event works: \n\nPanners are given an equal amount of dirt in a container (usually a pan or bucket’s worth).\nEach container of dirt contains Five (5) to Twelve (12) gold flakes- as small as a grinded piece of pepper!\nEach participant is given the same amount of flakes per categories.\nEach participant is not told and does not know the amount of flakes in their category.\nPanners pan out their container until they find gold (hopefully).\nGold is transferred to a vial.\nVial is shown to a scrutineer.\nScrutineer and panner confirm amount of gold\nFor each piece of gold missing from original container of dirt\, panner is penalized three minutes\nWinners of categories are determined by final time (Final time is a combination of time completed container and penalty minutes added)\n\n\n				\n			 \n			 \n				\n				\n			 \n				\n				\n			  \n
