SUMMARY:National Day for Truth & Reconciliation
DESCRIPTION:Events\nEvent Details\n\nTime: April 17 @ 7:30 pm – April 17 @ 10:00 pm\n\nCost: \n\nVenue: KIAC Ballroom\n\nAddress: 902 Second Avenue\, Dawson City\, YT\, Y0B 1G0\, Canada\n\nPhone: (867) 993-5005\nView Web SiteNational Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an Indigenous-led commemorative day that honours the children who have survived residential schools\, remembering those who did not\, and reflecting on the actions of the past to create a better tomorrow. This day is held to bring awareness to the loss of culture\, family\, freedom\, and self-esteem the Indigenous Nations across North America have experienced. By creating awareness and understanding of the actions of our past we aspire to reconcile with those who suffered in the past and to build a better future. \nNational Day for Truth and Reconciliation is acknowledged through Orange Shirt Day.Wearing orange is in recognition of  Phyllis Webstad's experience\, a residential school survivor and a Northern Secwepemc (Shuswap) author from the Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation located in the Caribou region of British Columbia. Phyllis arrived on her first day of school in a new orange shirt\, which was then taken from her. This memory inspired Phylis to share her experience and build momentum around acknowledging the experience of First Nations residential school survivors\, creating the symbolism of the stripping away of culture\, freedom\, family\, and self-esteem experienced by First Nations children over generations. \nJoin the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in First Nations on Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Territory at the Dänojà Zho Cultural Centre to support First Nations in reconciliation and to continue to spread truth and knowledge\, creating a better tomorrow for generations to come. \nDowntown Hotel

She moved to Canada in 2014 to pursue her career\, originally setting down roots in the vibrant Toronto arts community\, and eventually moved east to become an essential part of Newfoundland’s celebrated music scene. Paulo’s highly anticipated\, self-titled debut LP\, which arrived in spring 2023\, is a melodically dynamic\, heart-baring collection that finds her exploring the interconnected nature of relationships and the flow of time in lush\, sophisticated pop arrangements. The album’s textures come courtesy of production by Joshua Van Tassel (Villages\, Fortunate Ones) and Tim Baker (Hey Rosetta!). \nPaulo released her debut single\, the wistful “Please Don’t Forget\,” in 2019. Her debut EP\, Wave Call\, arrived in 2020\, featuring contributions from musicians Bravo Kilo\, Evan J Cartwright\, Kwame Appiah-Kubi\, and Tim Baker\, with production and engineering handled by David Gavan Baxter. She toured the EP in Europe in 2020\, making stops in Portugal\, the UK\, Ireland\, France\, and Germany. Her latest releases—the Live at First Light EP recorded for the Lawnya Vawnya Artist Residency and a cover of José Afonso’s Portuguese folk song “O Cavaleiro e o Anjo”—were both recorded in Paulo’s adopted hometown of St. John’s\, and include appearances by local musicians Tim Baker\, Adam Hogan\, Steve Maloney\, and Mary B. Waldram. \n“Your new favorite vocalist lives in Newfoundland” – MTV“Nico Paulo has a knack for transmuting the mundane motions of daily life into grand\, wistful reveries.” – The FADER \nDowntown Hotel

As a psychedelic ghost tale? A stream-of-consciousness bedtime story? An episode of Scooby-Doo as directed by Mario Bava? Any of the above will do for this hallucinatory head trip about a schoolgirl who travels with six classmates to her ailing aunt’s creaky country home and comes face-to-face with evil spirits\, a demonic house cat\, a bloodthirsty piano\, and other ghoulish visions\, all realized by Obayashi via mattes\, animation\, and collage effects. Equally absurd and nightmarish\, House might have been beamed to Earth from some other planet. Never before available on home video in the United States\, it’s one of the most exciting cult discoveries in years." -Criterion  \n\nDowntown Hotel

Patty Duke\, Barbara Parkins\, and Sharon Tate star as three friends attempting to navigate the glamorous\, pressurized world of big-time show business—the “valley” is not a place but a narcotized state of mind\, and the “dolls” are the pills that rouse them in the morning and knock them out at night. Blending old-fashioned gloss with Madison Avenue grooviness\, director Mark Robson’s slick look at the early days of sexual liberation and an entertainment industry coming apart was a giant box-office hit\, and has become an unforgettably campy time capsule of the 1960s." -Criterion \nWATCH TRAILER \n\nDowntown Hotel

Featuring a striking performance from Edwige Fenech and directed by often-overlooked giallo master Sergio Martino\, ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK (a.k.a. SUMMARY:Sarah Harmer Live
DESCRIPTION:Events\nEvent Details\n\nTime: April 17 @ 7:30 pm – April 17 @ 10:00 pm\n\nCost: \n\nVenue: KIAC Ballroom\n\nAddress: 902 Second Avenue\, Dawson City\, YT\, Y0B 1G0\, Canada\n\nPhone: (867) 993-5005\nView Web SiteBuy TicketsSarah Harmer is a multiple award-winning\, platinum-selling singer-songwriter and environmental activist. Her solo music career launched with the now classic debut You Were Here (2000) and includes six critically acclaimed albums\, including her latest\, Are You Gone\, released via Arts & Crafts in 2020. \nA deeply personal and political collection of songs motivated by the beauty of life\, the urgency of the climate crisis\, and the question of loss\, Sarah called the album a spiritual successor of sorts to her acclaimed 2000 debut. Its simple title\, Are You Gone\, is a meditation on presence and a bookend to the questions posed on You Were Here – a sharpened\, more electric confrontation with the realities of nature and human nature. \nBetween co-founding the citizen’s organization PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land) and leading the successful effort to prevent an open-pit gravel mine in a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve on the Niagara Escarpment\, Sarah has become a fixture in local politics and advocacy. In 2022\, Sarah helped launch the Reform Gravel Mining Coalition in her home province of Ontario to protect water\, farmland\, and biodiversity. This spring\, she received the prestigious 2025 Juno Humanitarian Award\, presented by Dr. David Suzuki in Vancouver BC for her human rights and advocacy work\, and was recently honoured with the keys to the city of Burlington presented by Mayor Marianne Meed Ward for her ongoing contributions to the region. \nSarah is currently writing songs for a new album. \nDowntown Hotel
