DESCRIPTION:Percy DeWolfe Memorial Mail Race \nEvent Details\n\nTime: March 5 @ – March 8 @ \n\nCost: \n\nVenue: \n\nAddress: \n\nPhone: \nView Web SitePercy DeWolfe arrived in the Yukon in 1989\, only to find all of the good claims for gold were already taken. After a decade of fishing along the Yukon River\, the hardy Dawson character began to deliver the mail between Eagle\, Alaskas and Dawson City\, Yukon in 1910 - 1949. \nPercy carried mail by dog team\, horse\, and by boat year round. Battling ice flows during freeze up and break up\, and the extreme winter weather in temperature of -50 below\, losing dogs and horse teams to the unforgiving elements.  Percy served his community courageously and in 1977 the first Percy DeWolfe Memorial Mail Race was held to commemorate his legacy and service.  \nThe Percy DeWolfe Memorial Mail Race reserves the first official start time of 10:00 in honour of Percy DeWolfe\, and the first race musher to “follow Percy” at 10:02 carries a bag of mail from Dawson to Eagle. You can be apart of honouring our history by purchasing an official Percy DeWolfe letter\, which will be sent in this first bag of mail.

Once the transportation “highways” of the Northern frontier\, the trail now comes alive each February with the frosty breath and haunting howls of hundreds of sled dogs. Up to 50 dog teams consisting of one human 'musher' and 14 canine athletes tread across some of the last pristine wilderness remaining in North America. \nDawson City marks the finish line for the teams racing the Q450\, the longest distance in the Yukon Quest currently being run. There will be a concession \, warm-up area\, and greeting area that allows you to get close to the athletes and enjoy the action!
