Born and raised in Whitehorse\, Yukon\, they are the author of thirteen books\, the creator of four films\, six stage shows\, and three albums that combine storytelling with music. Coyote’s books have won the ReLit Award\, been named a Stonewall Honour Book\, been longlisted for Canada Reads\, and been shortlisted for the Hilary Weston Prize for non-fiction\, and the Governor General’s Award for non-fiction twice. In 2017 Ivan was given an honorary Doctor of Laws from Simon Fraser University\, and in 2023 they received the first Honorary Doctor of Arts ever bestowed on anyone by Yukon University. Coyote’s stories grapple with the complex and intensely personal topics of gender identity\, family\, class\, and queer liberation\, but always with a generous heart\, and a quick wit. Ivan’s 13th book\, Care Of\, was released in June 2021 by McClelland and Stewart and their new one-person show Playlist premiered in February of 2024. \nSelina Heyligers-Hare (Hendrika) is a multi-instrumentalist\, songwriter and graduate from Selkirk College’s Music & Technology program. These are the opening lines from Calgary based art-rock band Ghostkeeper’s latest offering\, Multidimensional Culture\, an album which contains no shortage of dimensions\, both sonically\, and spiritually.\nThe couple (originally from the Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement in Alberta) met in their early twenties\, and began artistically collaborating soon after. Sarah\, already a visual artist\, wasintegral to determining the imagery for the project from early on. She utilized her talents to design their album artwork\, t-shirts\, and indigenous masks\, while Shane\, who had only recently embarked on his musical journey\, began laying the ground work for what would become their shared musical voice. Once their vision for the project had presented itself\, the duo’s trajectory and purpose became clear. Their early recordings were released through Calgary-based record labels Saved By Vinyl and Flemish Eye (home to acclaimed artists Chad Vangaalen\, Yves Jarvis\, and Preoccupations). There's Pallett's interpretationof 2010's "Heart of my Own\," calling back to the Béla Bartók compositions that marked Bulat's high-school career as an upright bassist. There's Frith's "Infamous\," which turns 2016'sprickly kiss-offinto something open-facing and generous. And there's Robidoux's reimagining of "Are You In Love?" —released just last year —which here becomes a whirling ballroom dance\, full of discovery. Bulat performs throughout\, finding new feelings for old lines. Distance teaches; distance reveals things. "I sing the songs differently now\," she says. "It's the gift of time."
