When you come out to Free Claim #6, you’ll be getting the authentic panning experience.

With no pans and no teaching on site, you’ll need to come prepared and find your own perfect spot in Bonanza Creek to “shake” and “swirl” your way to finding gold!  Pick wisely, because at Free Claim #6 you get to keep everything you find!

Getting Here

Travel approximately 12 miles (18 kilometers) down Bonanza Road into the Gold Fields (about a fifteen minute drive outside of downtown Dawson). Free Claim #6 is about a half a mile upstream from the famous Discovery Claim that kick started the Klondike Gold Rush.

Getting your Tools

Since pans and shovels are not available at Free Claim #6, you’ll have to supply your own, pans are available to borrow from the Visitor Information Center. If you want to buy a pan you can purchase them in town at the Trading Post or at Dawson Hardware. Don’t forget, when you’re at one of these three places you’ll also want to get a gold vial to put your gold in!

More Info

Originally staked by F. Ladouceur in October 1896, Free Claim #6 is now owned and maintained by the Klondike Visitors Association (KVA). They welcome anyone to try their luck, but remember, panning is restricted to hand tools (pans and shovels).
