The Authors on Eighth Walking Tour and Writing Contest is funded annually by the Writers Trust of Canada. Writers and book lovers of all ages are welcome to join us for this FREE event!
Writing Contest- Open Now
Authors on Eighth Writing Contest is a celebration of writers Jack London, Pierre Berton, Robert Service and Dick North. Submissions are judged by a panel including the Berton Writer’s Retreat writer in residence and a local judge. Prizes include gold nuggets and Klondike books.
Enter a piece of poetry or prose under 2500 words: Northern Weather. From the blazing midnight sun, to a frosty winter’s day, let the weather tell your tale!
– Email your submission to KVA@Dawson.net, including your full name, pen name, Address, Telephone Number. Please fix your submission in a Word document format attached to the email (no .pdfs). Do not include your name in your word document. Maximum one entry per person.

It is FREE to enter the contest. Selected entries are published in the Klondike Sun during the following year. Winners are announced at the Authors on Eighth Walking Tour, August 15, 2019.
Walking Tour- August 15- 1:30pm
The walking tour invites you to experience Dawson City through the eyes of literary greats Jack London, Robert Service, Dick North and Pierre Berton. Participants learn about the colourful and captivating pasts of these authors while visiting their historic homes with costume clad interpreters.
The tour commences at the Jack London Museum, proceeds to Parks Canada’s Robert Service Cabin and concludes on the lawn of the Berton House, which houses Writers in Residence year-round. Refreshments are provided at the end of the tour, and the winners of the writing contest are announced!
Stay tuned for the theme of the annual writing contest. Two winners will each receive a gold nugget and Klondike book prize pack. All submissions will be published in the Klondike Sun. Writers interested in submitting an original poem or short story can do by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org
