FAMILY VACATION
Dawson City’s got something for everyone, even the littlest members of your family, so load up the kids for a northern vacation you’ll never forget!

Spend an afternoon in the goldfields learning all about Dawson’s gold rush past. On Bonanza Creek Road you’ll find Dredge No. 4, one of the massive machines that mined the valley throughout the early 1900’s. You can read the informative panels outside or take a guided tour of the inner workings.
Just a little further down the road you’ll come to Discovery Claim, the site of the gold discovery that set off the Klondike stampede. There’s a short, easy walking trail with interpretive signs and relics of early mining technology.

Ready to find some gold of your own? Continue down Bonanza Creek Road until you come to Free Claim #6, where you can get your feet wet in the creek and try your hand at gold panning! Be sure to borrow a pan from the Visitor Information Centre before you hit the road. And remember, you get to keep whatever you find!

Does your family love to explore? Parks Canada has many geocaching sites spread throughout the goldfields and right in town! Each cache is hidden at a historic location. You can borrow a GPS device from the Parks counter at the Visitor Information Centre or use your favourite app. See if you can find them all!

While you’ve got your explorers hats on, why not take the ferry across the Yukon River and visit the paddlewheel graveyard? It’s an easy walk through the Yukon River Campground and out onto the banks of the river, where you’ll find three old wooden-hulled paddlewheelers hidden in the forest. They’re so much fun to (carefully!) explore

Fire trucks are fascinating, no matter how old you are! Be sure to check out the Dawson City Fire Fighter’s Museum on Front Street. Dawson was the first town in Yukon to have a fire department, and the museum is where you can see fire trucks and equipment both new and old. Maybe you’ll even have the chance to live out childhood dreams and sit in the front seat of one!

Whether it’s the history or the great outdoors that brings you north, Dawson City is guaranteed to show your family a truly memorable time!
